Annual Meetings: How To Engage The Community

Annual meetings for residents don’t typically sound too appealing to community members. Everyone enjoys their privacy, but getting to know your neighbors makes for a better community all around. However, there are several ways to improve attendance and engage your members to come join in on what could be a lot of fun -- if executed correctly.

Put the Word Out in Advance

It's important to get the word out in advance. Let your members know well in advance when the annual meeting is going to be held so that they can ensure they are free that day to attend the meeting. As is true with most everything in life, not giving enough of a heads up to events will usually result in a poor turnout.

Engage Your Members

Reach out to your community members with personal invitations. Let them know that they are an important part of the community and their attendance is important to everyone. Let them know that they are needed.

Have Fun

Annual meetings should be a fun environment so that people willingly attend. Have drinks and food readily available for the members to enjoy and snack on. Give away prizes and acknowledge members for fun and quirky things.

Remember, the annual meeting is something that cuts into the already busy schedule of your members. Entice your members to keep showing up year after year by making sure they enjoy themselves and continue to look forward to it.
